Abstract
German sociologist Ulrich Beck (Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, London School of Economics and Political Science) is best known for his work on risk, globalization, and reflexive modernization. His groundbreaking book Risk Society (1992) sparked international interest, debates, and scholarship on the topic of risk. His most recent work has promoted moving beyond 'methodological nationalism' by developing an innovative social science made for a cosmopolitan twenty-first century.
