A New Impact Time Control Guidance Law For Precise Time-On-Target Missile Strike

Abstract

Standard optimal guidance laws are formulated using linear dynamic constraints and are typically explicit in time-to-go. Current time-to-go computation methods are prone to significant error when the engagement dynamics are less than ideal. It is also known that error in the time-to-go calculation degrades the optimal solution. In this paper, a new nonlinear guidance law is proposed which provides perfect time-to-go calculations which are insensitive to trajectory curvature and provides for exact time-on-target control. The time-to-go calculation made at time t = 0 is in fact the final impact time.
