A New Design Of Reconfigurable Slot-Ring Antenna Using Pin Diodes
Abstract
A novel design of frequency reconfigurable slot-ring antenna is proposed. The reconfigurability is achieved by using PIN diode switches across each slot. Two operating states are defined based on different states of the switches (ON or OFF). Separate microstrip feed lines are used to excite the antenna at lower (2.23GHz) and higher (6.81 GHz) frequency bands and two via holes are etched away near the center of each slot for biasing purposes. Numerical simulations using HFSS show that the bandwidth of the antenna is 10.2% and 9.1% in lower and higher frequency bands, respectively, and the antenna efficiency is more than 91% at both bands.
