Evaluating Design Frameworks For Badges: A Case Study And Comparison Analysis Of Two Types Of Digital Badging Systems
Abstract
This chapter considers case studies of two categories of digital badging systems. The first case evaluates the scenario in which customized badging systems are developed from scratch by developers. The second case considers pre-designed, commercial badging systems that integrate with existing learning management systems. Screenshots and experiential notes are reported for each case and a table synthesizing the strengths and weaknesses of each category is provided and discussed. After considering these two cases, the authors recommend carefully analyzing learning requirements and institutional support before selecting the type of system to be deployed in badging studies or learning environments.
