Abstract
ln this work we demonstrate that analysis and reduction of abandoned actions is important in increasing efficiency of computer based tasks performance. Cognitive and motor explorative actions that give undesirable results will be referred to in this work as abandoned actions. Gnostic exploratory activity is virtually ignored in the task analysis. Meanwhile, it is an important component of the work activity because of the special role it plays in orienting activity. Gnostic exploratory activities that are carried out in the mental plain are called Gnostic dynamics. Orienting activity mainly precedes executive activity. The orienting activity concept is close to the concept of Situation Awareness in cognitive psychology but it's much wider than the concept of SA. It includes a conscious goal, and not only its verbally-logical but also imaginative components, etc. Emotionally-motivational mechanisms that are virtually ignored in cognitive task analysis play significant role in orienting activity which is a vital part of the human-computer interface..
