Abstract
Adaptive instructional technologies may represent the most effective and efficient computer-based learning tools. However, to gamer the benefits of adaptive instruction, such technologies must account for what students know and how their individual characteristics affect the way they learn. This paper (1) reviews the macro-adaptive learning variables that appear to most significantly moderate learning outcomes, (2) discusses practical considerations regarding these variables, and (3) suggests available self-response tools for data collection..
