Abstract
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) protocol has been introduced as a viable scheme in order to operate the parallel data transmission in WSN using a specific time slots assigned to each sensor node. A novel and energy efficient adaptive TDMA technique is proposed in this paper without the need of global clock synchronization. According to our proposed scheme, each sensor node uses its own assigned time slot and other unused time slots in an adaptive manner taking the network congestion and remaining energy of sensors nodes into account. An efficient graph coloring method is adopted to assign collision-free time slots to the sensor nodes in a random network. Our proposed energy efficient adaptive slot utilization technique enhances the network throughput as well as the minimization of message delay. Our proposed approach also provides a viable solution to utilize time slots even in the presence of both communication and physical obstacles. Simulation results show enhanced performance of our proposed algorithm over other existing algorithms in this regard.
