Abstract
A single-feed dual-band aperture-coupled antenna for 5G applications is presented. The proposed antenna is designed to operate as a dual-band radiator by utilizing the aperture slot, both as a feed to a microstrip patch at the upper band and a main radiator at the lower band. These two antennas resonate almost independently, and they provide the desired radiation performance at the operating frequency bands; furthermore, the independence of the resonators allows for flexible frequency scaling. The first band (centered at 28 GHz) and the second band (centered at 38 GHz), correspond to the slot aperture and the patch antenna, respectively. The dimensions of the proposed antenna structure are 6 × 6 × 1.27 mm{3}. The gain, including dielectric and metal losses, is ~ 6.8 dB and 8.25 dB, at 28 GHz and at 38 GHz, respectively. The cross-polarization discrimination is better than 48 dB for both bands.
