Pressure Gain Combustion Within A Rotating Detonation Engine For Rocket Performance Testing
Abstract
Early exploration of pressure gain within a RDE is investigated to determine maximum efficiency. By use of high speed imaging aimed down into the detonation channel of the RDE an operability map was created. Multiple regimes of combustion were realized within the operability map. Detonations, acoustic, and deflagration events were seen within the different mass fluxes imposed by the mass flow metered system. Slapping mode, and double detonation waves were also seen within the channel. Wave behaviors are mapped to demonstrate dual and chaotic operating conditions.
