Velocimetry Measurements Using Structured Light-Field Focusing In A Rotating Detonation Engine
Abstract
Velocity measurements in an RDE imposes great challenges due to the extreme supersonic reacting environment. This presented paper shows for the first-time velocity measurements using structured light-field focusing on a rotating detonation engine. The structured light-field focusing technique uses high-power LEDs to form planar measurements of refractive disturbances. This endows the cross-correlation with the reacting flow structures within the RDE. Additionally, this measurement allows for high speed image acquisition as well as enabling a simpler way to attain planar velocity measurements in an RDE. Velocimetry measurements are conducted in the exhaust plume of the RDE.
