Offset-Fed Metal-Only Reflectarray Antenna Design Using 3D-Cross Elements
Abstract
In this work, we present an offset-fed metal-only reflectarray design utilizing a 3D phasing element, namely a 3D-cross, to achieve the phase shift coverage of up to 360°. This design is suitable for space applications for which the use of dielectrics is not desirable. The design presented herein points the beam in the direction normal to the reflectarray, with the illumination from a feed horn incident at a skew angle of 30°. The simulated gain for the normal-directed beam is found to be 28.9 dBi at 35.6GHz. The aperture efficiency is 47%, while the sidelobe level is -19.7dB, relative to the main lobe.
