Abstract

This is a presentation that was presented (virtually) at the Florida Association of College and Research Libraries (FACRL) annual conference in October 2023.

The session outlined the process, from planning to execution, for creating collaborative student engagement activities between two unlikely partners in an academic library. In recent years, the University of Central Florida Libraries has hosted several joint activities between the Student Learning & Engagement and the Special Collections & University Archives departments. These events combined active learning and engagement strategies with self-guided learning. While Student Learning & Engagement staff routinely create and host these types of engagement activities, staff in Special Collections & University Archives were new at hosting library-wide programming. Everyone involved was excited - and honestly a little surprised - at the success of these events. This partnership gave Student Learning and Engagement access to new materials and unique collections to share with students. At the same time, Special Collections & University Archives staff discovered a new way to share department resources with students. This partnership resulted in increased unique interactions for both departments with students.
