Photo Description

A photo of the church street building downtown Orlando where Florida technological University's (UCF) first offices were. The vehicles date from the early 1960's. A note on the back states "First campus building: One West Church Street, Downtown Orlando; UCF Headquarters before & during construction". This building is still there, and, as of 2011, houses Valencia Community College's Downtown Campus. Flanking the building is a S.H. Kress & Co. (a five & dime store) as well as a Perfection Milk Display on top of a neighboring building. In the 60's during the civil rights movements Kress was a target for lunchroom sit-in style protests due to their rule of excluding African Americans from using their lunch counter.
