Achievements
Administered and ran programming for a recreation center at forward bases to include holiday activities, music, programs, library, bingo, games, group activities, talking one to one with service men. Assisted at aid station with minimally wounded men or with terminal injuries. Held classes for short term men on how to re-enter civilian life; assisted chaplain with some of his sessions and helped command with community programs. Volunteered at local orphanage to teach English to deaf students.
Note
“Attempt made to take me prisoner, but, once outside the gates and at a house somewhere outside the village, one of the local people helped me escape and was able to make my way back to base camp.” – The veteran. He was awarded Vietnam Civilian Service Medal in 1969 and 1970. This interview includes transcript file "Oral Memoirs of Karen Duffy: An Interview Conducted by Alex Thorp."

Collection Description
Contains logs, audio and video recordings of interviews with Central Florida's veterans as part of a history class project for the students at the University of Central Florida (UCF). The UCF Community Veterans History Project(CVHP) started in fall 2010. It collects, preserves, and makes accessible to the public the experiences of Central Florida's veterans so that future generations will better understand the realities of conflict. It is a collaborative endeavor supported by multiple departments and offices at UCF. The veterans' histories are archived and made digitally available through the UCF library and selected materials are contributed to the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress.
