The Wagar Space collection documents Commander Howard Wagar’s interest in the United States space program from the 1940s through the 1980s. Wagar, a U.S. Navy Commander, served on various military and space-related projects, including the Bikini Atoll atomic tests, the Atlas missile program, and the Apollo Space Project.
The collection contains periodicals, newspaper clippings, public relations materials, technical manuals, photographs, and prints related to the Apollo missions, the lunar landing, Skylab, Viking, Mars exploration, the Soviet space program, and astronauts. The collection also includes information on significant contemporary events, including post-World War II atomic bomb testing, the rise of Fidel Castro in Cuba, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
