This exhibit shares the everyday images of African American women in the United States from the early days of photography to the 1950’s. These photographs depict unidentified women from all ages and walks of life and represent their experiences in the form of traditional portraits to snapshots that capture moments of importance. These photographs were replicated and enlarged as indicated to preserve the originals from light and environmental damage over the course of the exhibit.
This exhibit ran from November 2012 through January 2013 and returned in March 2013.
Curated by Sandra Varry, co-curated and prepared by Whitney Broadaway, online exhibit managed by Burak Ogreten.
