Academic Affairs Diversity Speaker Series presented Talk Sexy to Me: How Gender Influences Conflict and Negotiation Processes and Outcomes AND What You Can Do To Overcome Disadvantages with Dr. Amanda Main on September 16, 2022.

Abstract

Conflict resolution and negotiation are topics that tend to have more complexities for females than they do for males. And there is actually a very logical reason for it. As a researcher who studies the mistreatment of women in the workplace, I will share with the participants of this session the theoretical underpinnings of why men and women behave so differently in the workplace, what outcomes we are seeing from this reality, and what women can do to increase their effectiveness in these difficult situations practically and easily.

By the end of this session, you will have gained:

  • A theoretical framework for the observed differences between males and females in the workplace that will assist you in understanding the complexities of conflict and negotiation.
  • An identification of 11 self-defeating behaviors that have been reinforced in society that harms both genders in negotiation AND ways to make intentional changes to each for increased benefit.
  • 10 practical and easy to implement ways to enhance assertiveness skills and how to identify and avoid the line between assertiveness and aggression – 100% foolproof!

Finally, all participants will receive an electronic journal to track their own progress in identifying and making desired changes toward being a more effective conflict resolver and negotiator.
