Description

From the artist statement:

For this book, I decided to work around the idea of bad ideas. More so bad thoughts and ways in which they can manifest. At times it feels as though thoughts are so negative that they feel poisonous to the body. This is explored in the short poem at the end of the book, but for the structure, the motif of a snake was used. Specifically a venomous rattlesnake, the idea of this being that these thoughts are the kind given by a venomous side of the mind that injects these ideas into the body. This boom was created using the flag book style. The flaps symbolize the body and tongue with the front cover as the head and back cover as the tail. To add another sculptural element and some humor, I used a book as the case for the book. The boot playing on the classic cowboy trope of snakes finding their way into their boots. To add onto the boot, I punched holes in the sides and tied yarn to create a laced appearance and added a rattle effect. This allows for the boot to not only house the boot but also be an interactive element on the nature of the boot itself.
