Description

Artist statement:

For my book I created, I re-created my drawing portfolio in a new form. I chose to hand embroider various pieces from my drawing portfolio, life drawings of figures and sketletal forms. The embroidered aspect was to mimic the movement the way my charcoal would move across my newsprint pad, while the charcoal lines would fade or be erased, in this embroidered from the movement made by my hand are preserved. I chose the leave edges raw, as a reminder of how fragile these sheets of paper are in real life. The vertical orientation of this book was also chosen due to it being how a newsprint pad would open. The eastern four hole binding I chose was both due to it being the best stitch for me to use in holding these pages together, as well as being visually reminiscent of how I would have to use scarves to wrap around my own newsprint pads to hold them together and carry them around, the pattern for the cover was also chosen for this reason.
