Artist statement:
In this book I documented different crochet and knit patterns and stitches I have created. This book was inspired by Anna Atkins who was one of the first female photographers, and she created a book “Cyanotypes of British and Foreign Ferns”, which is said to be one of the first published photography books. Early hands on photographic processes have been a great interest to me and how textiles can interact with photography has been a feature in a lot of my work. I used a piano hinge for this book, and have it being held together by various knitting needles, to not only add a further three-dimensional aspect of the book, also because the way a lot of the pages were printed are reminiscent of work hanging off of my knitting needle while in the process of knitting or crocheting.
