Photo Description

A steel pan instrustment maker, is looking at the surface markings on a steel pan instrument. These markings will be used as outlines to divide the pan’s surface into convex sections to make its range of sound. Each section will be pounded into shape with a hammer. This particular steel pan is made from a used steel oil drum. The steel pan, a percussion instrument, originated in Trinidad and Tobago and is one of the country’s national emblems. In the background of the image are other used steel oil drums and white metal steel pan stand. Slide labeled Trin. 19.
