Black-and-white photograph of the Altamonte Hotel, which stood from 1883 until it burned downed in 1953. The photograph is of an exterior shot of the hotel with benches and child sitting on one of the benches. The bottom of the photograph has inscribed on it Altamonte Hotel, Altamonte Springs, F. The inscription was scratched onto the film negative. Insribed on the back of the photo is: 2003.002.0055

Bell Hotel
Black-and-white photograph of the "Bell Hotel" in Sanford with cars, a display board, and a wagon. Display board reads: "YMCA diamond ball tonight 7:30 by the Zoo free E. Side Farmers vs. Piggly Wiggly." The wagon is Silas Bigger's peanut wagon. The Bell Cafe was owned by Manuel Dadelake, a Greek immigrant, in 1917. Inscribed on the back of the photograph is 2004.002.0797.

Big tree, "giant cypress" at Longwood.
Color postcard of the Big Tree "Giant Cypress" near Sanford (Fla.) Text on the back of the postcard reads: "Experts say only one other tree on the North American continent, one in Mexico, is older than the ancient cypress near Orlando, Florida. It is estimated that the Florida tree is between 2.000 and 3,000 years old. It is 127 feet high and has a circumference at its base of of 47 feet." Also on the back of the postcard is a handwritten correspondence.

The image contains a view of the Comfort Cottage with a covered porch, surrounded by trees, with people sitting on the porch.and The Comfort Cottage Hotel in Sanford is listed in the Florida Times Union for November 13, 1895 as under the management of Mrs. Martin and mentioned again in October 28, 1899 as Mrs. Martin opens the Comfort Cottage. Inscribed on the back is 2004.002.0797.

Color tone photographic postcard of the Cypress Methuselah in Longwood, Fla. Text on back of postcard: "The big Cypress tree is located near Longwood, Fla. midway between Orlando and Sanford. It is said to be the largest tree east of California. It is 47 feet in circumfrance at its base, and is 127 feet in height. It is also supposed to be the oldest tree in the U.S.A. The estimated age being between 2,000 and 3,000 years."

Hotel Montezuma
Black-and-white photograph of the Hotel Montezuma with car out front. Text above the photograph reads: Hotel Montezuma, Sanford, Florida. The hotel was on the corner of 3rd street and Magnolia avenue. Built around 1887, it was known as the Hotel Wilton, the Bye-Lo around the 1910s, renamed the Montezuma in the 1920s, and the the Hotel Montezuma in 1924. The front of the hotel faced Magnolia avenue. Postcards of the hotel from around 1910 show the 3rd street porch screened and from around 1926, extensive remodelling of the hotel took place. Corner posts on the front porch were removed and large square columns were added. The upstairs and 3rd street porches were enclosed to add more rooms and an extension was made to the south side of the building. The hotel burnt to the ground, date unknown. U.S. Pat.Off.andand and: Mayfair Hotel located on the banks of hte St. John's River at Sanford, a city of 11,000 people, directly connected with the ocean through an 8- foot channel on the St. John's River. Also on the back, a one cent stamp and a ink stamping that reads: Benson Junction, Fla. Mar. 18, p.m. 1947. The postcard is card stock with a linen finish.

Pico Hotel
Photographic version of an original photographic postcard of the Pico Hotel, Sanford, Florida with horses in front. The postcard is color tinted. Signs around the building say Railroad Dining Room, Restaurant, and Olive Hotel. Printed on the front of the postcard is Pico Hotel, Sanford, Fla. The building was the PICO Hotel (Plant Investment Co. hotel and restaurant located on North Oak Avenue). The building was designed by Sanford architect W.T. Cotter and built in 1887, who gave the building a Turkish/Byzantine style dome. The Turkish style hotel served the railroad and steamboat passengers. The restaurant was run by the Takach family. Inscribed on the back of the photograph in pencil is: 2004.002.0047.

First Street in Sanford. The hotel was first mentioned in the Sanford city directory in 1909 as Robins Nest, and was renamed Empire Hotel in 1917.
