Mrs. Bethune can be seen standing behind a group of male and female young African American children, who are all wearing a variety of clothes. Mrs. Bethune is wearing a light-colored dress. The cake has decorations and candles on it. On the back of the photograph is written, "July 10, 1954; Mrs. B's 79th birthday assembly, White Hall." The photographer of the image is unknown. The image is printed on Kodak Velox paper.
