Mrs. Bethune is standing on the left, and is wearing a black dress with a large pendant necklace around her neck. Carmella Williams is standing on the right, wearing an Orient-inspired costume. In the background can be seen female student who is watching the photographer take the picture. On the back of the image is written in pencil, "Miss Carmella Williams, soprano concert artist, with Mrs. Bethune after her appearance at the college, yr. 1954." The photographer of the image is unknown.
