Photographer

Ensminger, Jefferson C. (1843-1912)

Description

Elevated view of the buildings of downtown Sanford, Florida. The photographer, Jefferson C. Ensminger, took the photograph by standing on top of the Hester & Shepard Block (built 1887), which is on South Palmetto Avenue, and faced northwest. A variety of personal dwellings and businesses can be seen in the photograph. Some of the businesses have store names like "Bookstore," "S. W. Whitmore's Music Store," "Sanford Journal," and "Stove and Tinware". At the top right corner of the image is a large building with a clock tower at the top, which is the Hotchkiss Building (built 1887), which is still standing today.
