Description

A studio portrait, made in Cleveland, Ohio, c. 1907, showing Joseph Mikler (left) with wife, Katarina 'nee Strauch, holding infant son, Michael. Michael Mikler, st., brother of Joseph, is standing to the right. (He may have been the godfather for the child.) Likely that the photo was taken in Cleveland and was on the occasion of infant Michael's christening. The child was named in honor of his Uncle Michael (in photograph), in keeping with Slovak customs. The young namesake was then given the suffix of "ml." (mladsi), meaning, "the younger." The older individual was given the suffix "st."(starsi), meaning, "the elder." Reprint. Courtesy: Elaine Lavender, was scanned at SLLS, 2001 for 90th anniversary display.
