She is wearing a white shirt and black jacket, and is sitting in a chair with her arms on the armrests. Behind her, male and female students in the school uniform stand and sit on risers, their heads bowed and singing a hymn. On the wall behind them hangs a portrait of Mary McLeod Bethune. Typed on the front of the image is the note, "Dr. Bethune is shown in meditation on Sunday afternoon." The photographer of the image is unknown.
