Publishing Guidelines

The mission of the ConSTEllations journal is to provide research-based, real-world advice and resources to teachers, from teachers. The goal is to present best-practices in math and science instruction clearly, succinctly, and in a format teachers can immediately implement in a classroom. Submissions should describe pedagogy, curriculum, or assessment ideas shown to be effective through recent implementation.

Each submission to the ConSTEllations journal will consist of three parts: a Manuscript, Resources, and a Video.

A single submission is to be created with the Manuscript and Resources for peer-review.

Authors will submit a video only after the manuscript has been approved for publication; this will ensure blind-review during the initial process.

Your manuscript should:

  • Not exceed 3000 words, 5 pages, double spaced, 12 pt font (not including title page)
  • Include a title page with: article title, author(s) name(s), and affiliated institution/school for the author(s).
  • Be clear and concise, written for teachers not researchers
  • Have a short title that will catch the reader’s attention
  • Have tables, graphs, and charts appropriately labeled
  • Follow current APA style for references and citations

Your resources should:

  • Not exceed 2 pages in length
  • Be included in the same submission as the Manuscript
  • Assist a practicing teacher in implementing aspects of the pedagogy, curriculum, and/or assessment presented in the Manuscript
  • Include a materials list (if applicable) and suggested ways to obtain the materials
  • Include any relevant handouts/worksheets that are original works of the author and not subject to copyright (for example do NOT include any materials that were purchased by you or your district). Any copyrighted materials can be referenced in the Manuscript but not included directly as a Resource.

Your video should:

  • Not exceed 5 mins in length
  • Be submitted as a Supplemental File (you will receive notification of when to submit)
  • Demonstrate or explain a critical aspect of the content of the manuscript
  • Provide additional context or relevant details that were not easily contained in the Manuscript (for example, showing the use of a manipulative in a math lesson or the set up of a lab in a science lesson)
  • Not simply be a reading of the Manuscript
  • Have closed-captioning included (YouTube can help with generating closed-captions BUT creators should check for accuracy of captions before submitting it here)
  • Not show student names or faces.

Final Submission

  • Submissions must be made directly to the journal site, questions can be sent to the Editors at
  • You will receive an email verifying your document has been received.
  • Your submission will go through several reviewers to check for Content, Structure, and Relevance. This process may take up to 3 months.
  • You will receive an email once the review has been completed that will include any revisions requested
  • Once the Manuscript and Resources have been approved, you will be asked to submit your Video along with the final version of the Manuscript and Resources. If video revisions are needed, the editors will be in touch to ensure it meets our requirements as well.
  • You will receive an email once your submission has been approved for publication.
