Description

This interview was conducted as part of the Fall 2020 HIS3600, Professionalizing History Majors, class. Lynda Nguyen interviews Aileen Pongnon, a 21-year-old senior student that studies computer science, via Zoom about the impact of COVID-19 on her life. Aileen talks about what it was like for her when her UCF courses were transferred online in Spring 2020. Aileen also talks about her experiences with online classes during Fall 2020. She shares that she prefers online classes and explains why. She also talks about UCF’s current safety precautions and her opinions on the measures put in place by UCF. Due to not being on campus during the current fall semester, Aileen shares her opinions on the effectiveness of the campus safety measures put in place by UCF. Aileen talks about being immunocompromised during COVID-19 as well. Aileen shares what her current daily routine is like and the changes she and her family have made in their lives as a result of COVID-19. Since Aileen currently has a UCF job that allows her to work at home, she gives some insight to what some UCF employees may be going through. If UCF employees do not need to be on campus to do their jobs, then they do their jobs at and from home. Aileen shares her thoughts and feelings upon first hearing about COVID-19 in Spring 2020. At the end, Aileen shares a message of reassurance for those feeling guilty about wanting to be able to do things they can’t.
