    Abstract

A new nonlinear optical crystal BPONCC [Bis-4-nitropyridine-N- oxide cadmium chloride, Cd(NO2C5H4NO)(2)Cl-2], as a derivative of 4-nitropyridine-N-oxide,is reported for the first time. Preliminary results show that its powder intensity is about 8.2 times higher than that of urea, and the transparency cut-off wavelength is almost same as that of 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide (POM),which is about 420nm. Its melting point is much higher than that of the other 4-nitropyridine-N-oxide derivatives. The crystal structure belongs to space group Fdd2 with cell parameters a=11.644 Angstrom A, b=50.025 Angstrom A, c=3.808 Angstrom A.
