    Abstract

While the majority of mixed ionic electronic conducting ferroelastic perovskites exhibit a single softening followed by hardening during loading, we report an unusual dual softening in lanthanum chromite-based perovskite due to a possible pressure-induced first-order phase transition from orthorhombic to rhombohedral phase during loading. The effects of temperature and cyclic incremental loading on the deformation behavior of the material are studied. (c) 2009 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
