This broadcast discusses the book, A Trip to Florida for Health and Sport, written in 1855 by Cyrus Parkhurst Condit and published for the first time in 2009. Written ten years after Florida statehood, Condit's book provides an accurate depiction of everyday life prior to the Civil War through the eyes of a seventeen-year-old boy in north Florida. The program features the book's editors, Dr. Maurice O'Sullivan and Dr. Wexian Zhang of Rollins College.
