About the Author

Hello! Before we introduce ourselves, we are greatly indebted to Second Harvest for their eagerness to participate in this project. The staff has matched our enthusiasm along every step of this amazing journey, and we can't wait to share it with you. Our names are Anthony, Dani, Joao, and Sebastian. Despite differences in majors and ethnic backgrounds, we first-year LEAD scholars were drawn together to tell Second Harvest's story and spread awareness on how to get involved. To do this, Dani, our resident film major, has stepped up to make our materials as engaging as possible. Joao, business major, interviewed Novella Washington, the Resource Manager of Second Harvest. Sebastian's history with this organization has been key in our reflection piece. All of us wanted to convey Second Harvest's impetus, empathy, as it is equally our own. LEAD gave us the tools to do it: the social change model, Tuckman model, and Johari's window augmented our work and demeanor. So a special thank you is to be had for Dr. Mandelbaum! She taught us well. On behalf of every one of us, please enjoy.

Abstract, Summary, or Creative Statement

Firstly, we seek to bring attention to the issue of hunger (especially within our local community). Then, we analyze Second Harvest's mission statement, roles for volunteers, and espoused/enacted values (in relation to the social change model). By this, we hope to advocate for Second Harvest as a community that does what it says it does. At the end of the day, Second Harvest does fulfill its purpose in powerful ways. We offered some ways the organization could improve, then lobby for people to get involved in any way they can in the war against hunger. This issue is important to us all.
