Piedra entre olas = Rocks amidst waves

Abstract

This is a collection of poetry and creative non- fiction that creates a mosaic illustration of my memories related to my departure from my native country of Puerto Rico. Poetry and non-fiction combine in a dynamic dialogue that attempts to re-create the emotions of my soul, the admiration for my beloved land and its history, the nostalgia for its past and traditions, my growing self- awareness as it is shaped by various underground tremors such as the deep admiration to my militant father, the abandonment of Medical studies, and the criticism of people who lack patriotism and cultural dignity. Part I looks back to the days when I lived in Puerto Rico, highlighting both the beauty of its costume and panorama, as well as illustrating my fears, such as death, seen in "Tears for the Kingfisher." Part II explores the emotions that have grown while ling in the United States, exploring the various new believes I've acquired and feelings of alienation.
