Abstract
Advances in antiretroviral treatment (ART) have transformed HIV from a fatal disease to a manageable condition, enabling people with HIV to live longer lives. However, aging individuals with HIV continue to experience a disproportionate burden of multiple chronic conditions. Previously, it was identified that there is a rise in cardiometabolic complications among individuals living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The impact of HIV on cardiovascular health emphasizes the need for further research into additional factors that may exacerbate these effects. As the HIV population ages, frailty, a condition characterized by increased vulnerability to stressors, is recognized as a significant health concern, potentially compounding the cardiovascular burden. By studying a major factor, frailty, that may be contributing to the correlation between HIV and cardiovascular disease, this study is a significant step towards addressing the long-term needs and treatment methods of individuals living with HIV.
