Abstract

Mandates in the United States created pressure on an already strained healthcare system post-COVID-19 pandemic. With new regulations placed upon abortion care forcing the closing of low-cost health clinics such as Planned Parenthood, legislation that has made health insurance more expensive, and rising pharmaceutical prices, women’s OB/GYN care in America has struggled to meet patient needs. A cross-sectional survey was developed and distributed to four clinics in the Orlando area to assess patients' perceived access to care and identify barriers to receiving OB/GYN care. The survey took approximately 10 – 15 minutes to complete, was available in print and online in both English and Spanish, and collected de-identifiable data over the course of five months in 2025. Survey questions covered access to care, healthcare satisfaction, and demographics. Twenty-nine surveys were collected from patients who were at least 18 years of age at the time of data collection and visited one of the clinics selected for the study: Planned Parenthood – Orlando Health Center, Planned Parenthood – Kissimmee Health Center, AdventHealth Medical Group OB/GYN at Orlando (formerly Loch Haven OB/GYN), and The IVF Center. Survey responses were input into Qualtrics, and the overall perception of access to care was assessed. Qualtrics Stats IQ and Crosstabs IQ were used to calculate descriptive statistics and estimate correlations to identify barriers to care. Overall, the issues/barriers highlighted in this study were insurance, race/ethnicity, and cost of care. These results add to the knowledge of women’s healthcare disparities at the micro level, spread awareness of barriers to accessing OB/GYN care, and pave the way for wider studies and innovative and legislative solutions.
