    Photo Description

View of severely damaged area near the floor in the lower forward section of the left-hand equipment bay below the Environmental Control Unit in Spacecraft 012. The Apollo 204 Review Board states in its Final Report that studies of fire damage patterns indicate that this was the most likely region for the start of the Apollo 204 fire. One of the Review Board's determinations was that the most probable initiator of the fire was an electric arc in a power cable in this area. Conclusive proof is not available, the Board report said, because parts of the power cable were completely burned. A section of the power cable is seen in the center foreground of the picture. It is believed the power cable crossed over the horizontal tubing in the center of the picture and under the lithium hydroxide door (which had been removed when this picture was taken).
