Apollo 9 LM Viewed from CSM. The lunar module "Spider" ascent stage is photographed from the command/service module on the fifth day of the Apollo 9 Earth-orbital mission. While astronaut David R. Scott, command module pilot, remained at the controls in the command module "Gumdrop," astronauts James A. McDivitt, Apollo 9 commander, and Russell L. Schweickart, lunar module pilot, checked out their "Spider." The lunar module's descent stage had already been jettisoned.
