Photo Description
The large dark area in the center of the picture is Syrtis Major with the desert Hellas below. Several craters can be seen on the picture. Those lying at the edge of the south polar cap are especially conspicuous. The planetary limb is sharp and crisp, indicating the absence of atmospheric scattering above the limb. The 29 black dots are the reseau marks on the face of the vidicon tube.
