President Richard M. Nixon introduces Apollo 13 astronauts, left to right, John L. Swigert, Jr., Fred W. Haise, Jr., and James A. Lovell, Jr., mission commander, during welcoming ceremonies today in Hawaii. The President presented the three spacemen the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award, after they guided their damaged spacecraft around the Moon and back to Earth. They splashed down yesterday in the Pacific Ocean, four miles from the USS Iwo Jima, prime recovery ship.
