Letter dated December 10, 1696 (November 30, 1696 Old Style) from Samuel Bowne to Phineas Pemberton. Part of the letter offers consolation for Phebe's recent death.

Dear Pe^m^berton [Pemberton] the 30 ^day^: 9 ^mo [month]^ : 1696
My dear love dearly Salutes thee [you] truly sympathy seing [seeing]
[strikethrough] with thee [you] in this thy [your] great loss, O. [oh] my dear
friend my hart [heart] is sadd [sad] to Consider how thee [you] and
thy [your] dear babes will miss soe [so] near a friend & [and] help
Meet as dear Phebe [Phebe Pemberton] was to to thee [you] and thyne [yours] but
what can be said death puts an end to the troubles of
this life & [and] is a blessed day to those that are pre
pered [prepared] for it as I belive [believe] dere [dear] phebe was dear-
Phineas [Phineas Pemberton] wee [we] shall beglad [be glad] to be helpfull [helpful] if in any
thing [anything] wee [we] can asist [assist] thee [you] conse^r^ning [concerning] y^e^ [the] bringing up of
thy [your] chilldren [children] my dear wife is very much con
serned [concerned] for thee [you] and thy [your] little ones. our desires is
the lord may asist [assist] thee [you] in this thy [your] exersise [exercise] –
soe [so] in I [my] hart [heart] with myne [mine] and my wifes [wife’s] dear
love to thee [you] and thyne [yours] I take leave and bid
