Abstract

A model to determine the net displacement of the intensity peak of Gaussian beam reflected at a dielectric interface is developed. An expression for the net displacement of the reflected beam which hold for narrow or wide beam widths and for any incident angle is derived. The nonspecular phenomena, namely, lateral, focal, and angular shifts and a modification of the beam waist magnitude can be calculated from our analysis. Our numerical results of the exact expression are compared with the published experimental result and the other previous works. This thesis also presents numerical results of four nonspecular phenomena obtained by approximated methods of previous work.
