A statistical approach for estimating the loss contribution of concatenated connectors in fiber-optic links

Abstract

This thesis analyzes the insertion loss contribution of concatenated connectors in fiber-optic links. A statistical approach based on the loss distribution of a single connector, with a method for numerical convolution is developed. The predicted insertion loss is less than the sum of the "worst case" connector loss values. A short-haul fiber-optic link example illustrates the method.
