Tactical team training utilizing Artificial Intelligence
Abstract
Tactical team training is the development of military tactics knowledge and skills required of a group of military personnel who act in a directed, coordinated manner to achieve a common mission task. As military systems continue to grow in complexity and the resources used to train personnel in their use become more scarce, training suppliers must obtain a means to multiply the instructor's effect. Artificial Intelligence (AI), that subdiscipline of computer science which attempts to replicate human behavior in computer programs, holds great promise of being that multiplier. To date, AI technology has been applied sparingly to training military tactics in a team context. This paper focuses on the application of AI technology, in the form of expert systems, to tactical team training.
