Replacing Invar with a Graphite-Epoxy Composite in the Design of Optical Retroreflectors
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of a Graphite-epoxy composite, Hercules AS4/3501-6, as a replacement material for Invar, for applications such as optical retroreflectors. The results illustrate that the composite can meet the thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity requirements through appropriate orientation of the fibers in the multi-layer matrix.
