Abstract
This research report is an investigation of techniques for designing linear phase finite-duration impulse response (FIR) filters. The software package, CADFIR, developed for this project can be used to design linear phase FIR digital filters via three well-known design techniques: the window method, the frequency sampling method, and the optimal filter design method. CADFIR has options for designing such standard filters as lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and bandstop filters as well as multipassband-stopband filters. The fundamental properties of FIR filters are discussed and design algorithms associated with the three FIR filter design techniques are developed. Design examples are included and the procedure for using CADFIR is demonstrated.
