System identification of a czochralski crystal growth system and simulation by a graphics user interface system

Abstract

In this thesis experiments performed on the Czochralski crystal growth system at the University of Central Florida crystal growth laboratory are designed and analyzed . The experiments require modifications to the crystal growth system to allow for computer controlled data acquisition. Data gathered from the experiment results in transfer functions of various processes in the closed loop crystal growth system. The transfer functions are used in a control system simulation. A highly-interactive Graphics User Interface (GUI) is used to make it possible to visually observe the effects of the control system parameter variations on crystal growth stability. The ability to then tune the control system with the GUI for a particular crystal growth is demonstrated. Tuning a control system for the desired performance is standard practice in industrial applications.
