Title
Ultimate Gourmet Kitchen Gadget: The Microcomputer.
Abstract
Microcomputer technology for the 'kitchen of the future' is ready for home adoption. The rate of home adoption has been slow due to individuals' computer fears. Before micros find a ubiquitous home near the range, consumers need to understand how their productivity can be enhanced with this gadget. Potential users must be educated regarding 1) the time, money, and frustrations expended, and 2) the nature and timing of improved decision making. Applications demonstrated include: budgeting, meal planning with nutritional requirements determined for each family member based on level of physical activity and preferences, inventory control with MRP (materials requirement planning), recipe and coupon files, and database linkings to integrate individual applications. To maximize computer adoption by those who may be classified as 'noncomputerate' we present a psychological approach to learning OLD tasks in NEW ways.
