Analyses Of Bbo And Ktp Crystals For Optical Parametric Oscillation.
Abstract
The use of KTiOPO4 (KTP) is proposed for tunable laser sources, where the optical parametric oscillation processes, pumped by a doubled YAG (532 nm), generate output wavelength ranges of 0.7-1.9 μm. For comparison, the OPO tuning ranges of beta-barium-borate (BBO), which has a lower efficiency but wider ranges (0.6-3.0 μm), are presented. Two possible polarization configurations, II-A and II-B, have been defined for a BBO type II crystal, where II-A has a larger deff than that of II-B. For KTP crystal, the calculations show that II-B is more efficient than II-A. It is noted that noncritical phase-matching angles of KTP can be achieved in some diode-pumped systems that show extremely wide acceptance widths of angle, spectrum, and temperature.
