Title
Tests Of Nighttime Solar Panel Temperature Depressions For Information Of Freeze Protection Sensor Placement.
Abstract
For direct solar systems with potable water in the collector loops, it is well recognized that freeze protection mechanisms must accomodate absorber plate temperature depressions resulting from nighttime thermal radiation; absorber plates become colder than the ambient air. Six solar panels under wintertime conditions were monitored at the Florida Solar Energy Center in Cape Canaveral for the purpose of better understanding the solar panel nighttime temperature depression phenomenon and the proper freeze sensor placement and switching strategy.
